Traffic To Your Site | BART Overreacting With Blocked Cell Traffic

Cell service never a guarantee

In your Aug. 17 editorial, you complained about the Bay Area Rapid Transit action ["Blocking cell traffic an overreaction," Opinion].

I think you need to recheck your facts. The BART stations involved were the deep underground station below Market Street. The only way there is cellphone coverage down there is they have installed a mini cell site at the station. All they had to do was turn off the cell site. They didn't block anything.

Remember, there is no guarantee that you will always have cell coverage everywhere all the time, any time, anywhere.

This has nothing to do with free speech. BART could close the whole station if they felt it was necessary without regard for the U.S. Constitution.

Besides, all that was necessary to get cell service was to return up to the street level.
