Traffic To Your Website | Road Help | Video

"We were told out by Lindsey road that there was a 42 minute wait for a truck to make a left turn. I mean 42 minutes, just think of the loss of productivity for that company" says Public Works Director Monte Meiers.

It's why City officials want to make improvements by adding more lights, signs, and even cameras.

"We`re talking about traffic signals out by Lindsey down by Scenic Sports. Dedicated left hand turn signals, there`s just a lot of them and truck traffic is getting worse and worse everyday. Every time you put ten more rigs in, it just seems like 300 more trucks show up" says Williston Street Commissioner Howard Klug.

"We will use a camera sensor device on them to be able to pick up vehicles. We will also put advanced blinking warning signals in prior to it on the west bypass to blink only when the signal is going to change" says Meiers.

Both Klug and Meiers says there`s not much else the city can do without the help of the North Dakota Department of Transportation. They say they`ve been urging legislators to put through a bill this year that would help-but ultimately they need to the help of Williston residents.

"As long as it's done in a civil matter they`ll listen. Go to the DOT website and write down your concerns you have and the production concerns you have. Anytime you have to wait 20 minutes to get on a highway, it really slows down a lot of busy people and takes part of your life away" says Klug.

Klug says officials from Bismarck have already visited Williston and they`re making progress. Now he needs Williston residents to contact there legislators and the DOT for even more help.

Klug also says that a bypass going around Williston is in the works. Once that gets done, they can better focus on the West Dakota bypass.
