SEO | Search Engine Usage Zooms Upward In 2011

With all of the commotion and conversation about social networks and the basic belief that Facebook will soon dethrone Google as king of all things internet, it is interesting to note that search engine usage is on a 10 percent growth curve for 2011. Actually the July increase in searches on Google, Yahoo and Bing was so great that it alone pushed the number of queries into double digit percentage of growth.

While a certain degree of this increase can be attributed to the surge in popularity of smartphones, with particular emphasis on Android driven handsets, there remains the simple idea that search engine use is on the rise. Couple this news with Facebook's three and a half percent drop last month in the UK and you have cause to think and perhaps celebrate.

SEO agencies can all breathe a sigh of relief knowing that not only will the demand for quality search engine optimisation and online marketing continue, it should increase. As entertaining as social networking may be, it does not serve as an information resource. It also does not serve as an Internet portal for the sale of goods and services.

All of these statistics give us clues to the future of web marketing. SEO experts are likely to discover that the entire industry is just now in its toddler stage. Google's investment in tablet and handheld technology along with Apple's phenomenal hardware sales all further this point. At some point social networking will be assimilated into search platforms. It will not be the other way around. Facebook will not be replacing Google anytime soon.
